What does this mean to our clients? The health and function of all the organs and tissues of the body are heavily influenced by the control and coordination of the nervous system. A spine that does not have good movement and energy can cause more than just neck or back pain.
In fact, even in the absence of outright pain, areas of the spine that are not moving with proper energy cause health problems. Can this be measured?
A solid object immersed in water will displace its volume of water, causing the water to rise. When you climb into a bathtub filled to the brim, it will overflow. When you plunk four ice cubes into an already full glass of juice, it spills onto the counter. We learn this as children. Throw a quarter into Lake Michigan. Heck, let's throw in a Hummer. Or ten Hummers. Did we displace water? You bet. Do we have the tools to measure how much the water rose? Not a chance.
If the spinal cord and nerves are pinched by a herniated disc or degenerative bone spurs, a loss of sensation and motor control will eventually result. What if there's just a little pressure? At what point does it become important to address as a factor causing health problems?
If you rub the skin on your arm for three seconds, would it hurt? How about the same rubbing for three hours? Three days? Three months? Three years? In the search for ideal health, it is desirable to have NO pressure or irritation on our nerves. How much pressure is it OK for your family to have on their spine and nerves?
The purpose of chiropractic, in my opinion, is to maintain good movement and energy in ALL of the body, especially the spine and nerves that control everything else.
